Car battery, battery preparation to winter operation

In winter, the load on the battery increases dramatically due to the preheating of the engine and the working heating. And if another car is not in the warm garage, and in the cold yard - frosty morning the car enthusiast has to make a lot of effort to bring the car into a working condition. Since the battery carries a large load, it must be carefully prepared for the cold.

Buy new or revitalize old battery

If the battery in the morning began to be discharged in the cold, and it serves a lot of years - it is worth thinking about the purchase of a new battery.

And if your battery is fresh, but you did not bother to inspect it - inspect now, it is not too late.

It is possible that in your battery there is simply no electrolyte.

You examined the battery, led it to a commodity look, all rubbed, discovered, and there is no electrolyte.

Decided to restore the battery.

Required liquids and battery recovery devices

If you decide to restore the battery yourself, then you need to purchase the following materials and reagents:

  • distilled water (purchased in the automotive store in 1,5 liter tank);
  • sulfuric acid (can also be purchased and electrolyte, but only if it is good density and is not divorced). Acids need about 0.5 liters;
  • the range, the device for measuring the density of the electrolyte, is purchased in the auto shop and is not expensive;
  • glass can with a glass of 3 liters - in it you will mix water with acid;
  • battery charger;
  • ordinary water;
  • set of veosals;
  • protective gloves, glasses and respirator;
  • working clothes.

Since working with acid is dangerous, when hitting clothes - clothes come into disrepair, so we dress things that will not mind will throw away.

Preparing electrolyte with your own hands

The electrolyte is a mixture of acid and water.

Creating a mixture, originally pour water distilled in the volume in the amount of 500ml, then add an acid into water with a thin flowing.

Important! Do not do the contrary! If you are fluted in acid, a rapid chemical reaction will begin, the splashes of the acid can get into the hands and in the eyes, and if there are abrasions or wounds on the hands of the abundance - there will be very unpleasant memories.

Acids add about 200 ml.

After mixing, it is necessary to bring the mixture to density 1.32, for this, gradually pour acid and measure the density area.

The mixture is heated greatly and highlights pairs that is not recommended to inhale.

The resulting mixture is allowed to cool for 20-30 minutes, and at this time we remove the old electrolyte from the battery.

You can not turn over the battery upside down, just slightly tilt the battery and you can remove the remnants of the electrolyte with the areometer.

But completely electrolyte will not be able to remove - it does not matter.

Pour a new electrolyte into rechargeable banks

After the electrolysis mixture was cooled, using the areaometer, consistently fill the electrolyte into each bank of the battery.

Since the old electrolyte remains in the battery, to mix it with a new electrolyte - shake the battery slowly.

After poured all the banks to one level - it is necessary to level the electrolyte density in all banks.

As the level of electrolyte density in banks

Choose a jar in which the highest density.

To equalize the density, pump the electrolyte from the bank with the lowest density and fill the fresh electrolyte with high density.

And makes the method of tyk, a considerable number of times.

Do not forget to shake the battery, but do not turn it out.

The true moment of happiness has arrived - the density of all cans has become equal to 1.27-1.28 - close all banks and rinse the battery from electrolyte residual water.

Wipe with a rag dry, thrown out the rags.

Advice:

  • after TAGA, as the electrolyte is flooded, it is necessary to defuse the battery completely until zero, it can be achieved in full discharge, if you turn on all the electrical appliances of the car, literally on your eyes the battery is discharged;
  • the battery is discharged, open the banks and connect the charger until the battery is complete;
  • the battery is fully charged, disconnect the charger and check the level and density of the electrolyte in each bank again. If the electrolyte moved away from the norm, bring it to the desired condition;
  • thus, you can restore the battery with the plates are not closed and the banks of the battery "alive".
