According to a well-known and already constant "tradition", winter in Russia always comes suddenly, including for some motorists who learn about the occurrence of winter only when the water freezes in the glazer tank and the engine ceases to start. Preparation of the battery for winter operation

Perhaps the most important condition for the launch of the "engine" in frosty weather is the serviceability of the battery, in which the electrolyte density should be within 1.26-1.28 g / cm³.

However, nevertheless, the most important condition for the easy and fast engine launch in the winter remains the serviceability of the battery.

Launch of gasoline engine

We will analyze the situation: winter frosty morning (approximately -20ºС), a car with "mechanics".

Sit into the car, but I do not start the engine at once.

First heat the battery.

One of the proven battery warming methods is the usual turning on / off of the overall light (to frort 10-15 seconds).

Next, we turn on the ignition and expect (a few seconds) of the fuel injection into the system using a fuel pump.

Then, install the gear shift lever on the "neutral", press the clutch before the stop and start the engine.

When the injection motor is started, in no case touch the accelerator pedal (gas), and before starting the carburetor engine - pull the suction handle.

Usually, in a working car, the engine starts within 4-5 seconds from the first attempt, but sometimes there may be several attempts.

Do not hurry, it is better to wait a minute, after which we again do the action described above.

After a successful start of the engine, you need to slowly and smoothly release the clutch pedal.

If, when returning the clutch to its original position, the engine will start to lose momentum, the pedal will need to squeeze again and wait 30-40 seconds (while the oil is heated in the checkpoint).

To warm up the injection motor, it is usually enough for 2-3 minutes, and for a carburetor engine will take about 10 minutes.

During the warming of the motor, it is recommended to make a car preparation for a safe movement: clean the glasses frozen overnight and warm the salon.

Run "Diesel"

In winter (already at temperatures below 0ºC), the summer diesel fuel is crushed due to the crystallization of paraffins, as a result of which filters and the entire fuel system are clogged.

Therefore, with the onset of cold weather, it is strongly recommended to switch to winter diesel fuel, designed for operation at temperatures to -25 ° C.

For the northern regions with a colder climate, the arctic diesel fuel is recommended for temperatures from minus 30ºС and below.

As practice has shown, even when using the right winter diesel fuel, it will not be superfluous to use depressor additives that prevent the fuel thickening.

In extreme cases, you can add kerosene to the proportion diesel fuel: 80% - summer solar / 20% - kerosene.

The most advanced car owners enjoy systems (preheating heaters) of fuel and fuel pipelines.

The procedure for the launch of the diesel unit is exactly the same as when the gasoline engine is launched.

If everything is in order with a diesel and battery, the engine starts without problems.

Running engine with automatic transmission

Automatic transmission unprepared for winter operation, can significantly complicate the winter engine start.

For the night, the oil in the gearbox may thicken to such an extent that it will be seriously counteracting the rotation of the shafts in the "Automat".

If a clutch can be turned off in a manual transmission, the clutch pedal by squeezing, then it is not possible to shut off the automatic transmission in principle, so the starter will need to make more efforts to scroll the crankshaft and gearbox.
