Spark plugs how to replace spark plugs with your own hands

As you know, there is nothing eternal under the moon. Therefore, during the ride, over time, the condition of your engine will depend on the state of the ignition candles, and they have properties to wear out. Therefore, in addition to the frequent replacement of engine oil, replacing the spark plugs, also quite a frequent procedure. It is terrible to change the only first time, the procedure itself is quite simple, but the necessary elementary knowledge, certain tools, a short time to work.

What tools are required to replace the spark plugs

In his arsenal, you must have:

- Special key for spark plugs, it is also called a ratchet key;

- Options of the heads of different sizes, in this case the head is required according to the size of your spark plug and the second head, corresponding to the fastening of the fixation of the wire on the candlelight or the decorative lid;

-these extension cord, with which you can get to the candles.

How to find spark plugs on your car

By itself, work on replacing candles, the procedure is not complicated.

But how to find these candles?

If your car is equipped with a row engine with a row or V-shaped position of cylinders - in this case, the spark plugs are located on top of the engine.

But, sometimes, the spark plugs are under the plastic engine cover.

In this case, it is necessary to unscrew and remove the plastic lid.

But removing the cover is very rare, as manufacturers provide for the presence of working holes through which can be reached by ignition candles.

Opening the hood, you should pay attention to the wires (they are thick and elastic).

At the same time, if you know the number of cylinders of your engine, then these thick elastic wires should be as much.

Look at this wire, move your eyes through the wire and at the end you will see the ignition candle.

At each end of the wire you will find the appropriate candle.

The four-cylinder engine is equipped with four candles, while these candles are located right in front of you at the top of the motor.

If the machine is equipped with a V6 or V8 engine, then the candles in such a machine are evenly distributed on both sides of the engine, on the left and right.

And you can get to them, also to the left and right.

Finding out for candles, you will see that the wire from the candles is removed very easily.

Important! Do not remove all the wires from the candles at once, at the same time. Otherwise, after replacing the candles, you can confuse the wires. A car engine cylinders should work strictly in a certain order.

In order for the cylinder to start working, on a certain wire it should be sparking.

Therefore, in order not to create chaos in the engine, change the candles one.

The process of replacing the spark plugs with your own hands

Seeing a number of spark plugs in front of the eyes, start working with the last candle in the row.

Keep your hand at the shortest distance from the candle, take the spark plug wire and pull it.

Sometimes a small torque is required to pull the wire, since this wire can be inserted with a presser force.

Sometimes the wire is in a special plug (cap), pull this wire must be neat. There are options for fastening the wire not just due to the clamping force of the rubber tip, but the wire is attached using the plug to the engine body.

Connection of Candle wires can be closed with a decorative protective lid.

In such cases, initially, it is necessary to unscrew these decorative lids or plugs, and it may be necessary to remove the overall plastic engine cover.

The first stage is passed, the wire is disconnected.

Put the wire away from the candle so that it does not interfere with when working.

Now we need an end key - a ratchet, take it into hand, insert it in one end of the extension core, the head of the desired size is located on the extension.

Rotating the key counterclockwise, unscrew the spark plug, which you have freed from the wire.

Do not be afraid, it may take a little effort to move the candle from the spot.

The spark plug was unscrewed, what's next?

After you twisted the old spark plug, carefully inspect it. The ignition candle should be slightly dirty or dark from the end of the spark plug, which is located on the engine side.

If the candle has a small amount of soot - everything is fine. But if a removed candle, white or fan with oil - means you have problems.

Remember! The ignition candle of each cylinder is an accurate indicator of the possible problems of your engine.

Check the insulator from the porcelain on the absence of cracks.

Is the right spark plug you purchased

Taking an old spark plug into the hands and a new one - visually compare the dimensions, they should be the same.

Have the same labeling, the same thread and the thickness of the seating area into the engine housing, the same connector for wires.

Tighten a new candle to the place of old.

It may turn out such a casus that the candle crashes out of the head, since the hole is deeper and you will not be able to insert and spin the new spark plug, as the key prevents you.

Insert the wire into the candle (or a small piece of the rubber hose), use the wire to insert the candle into the hole and slightly nag, now remove this wire and screw the ignition candle to the stop.

But know the measure, do not act on the proverb "There is a force, you don't need a mind."

After all, the spark plug, its saddle is made of soft metal and you can easily hit the thread.

As a result of the above operations, you twisted a new candle.

Now you need to insert it native wire.

Check before this wire on cracks, fastes, worn.

If necessary, replace the wire.

You can run the engine and listen to its work.

If you, without obeying the council, pulled out all the wires immediately and when connected they confused them - now you can learn about it.

The car may simply get started, and it can work roughly and noisy or hear asophony of sounds.
