Types of car suspension

During the creation and production of vehicles, engineers constantly improved their design, bringing it to perfection. A significant role in the comfort, safety and handling of the car is played by the suspension. About her and will be discussed in this article. Of course, every type of suspension we will not consider, as it will take not one page, but only focus on the most common.

Car suspension

At the moment, three types of suspension are most often used: double-mate, multi-dimensional and MacPherson.

Consider each of these species in more detail.

Double suspension

Double suspension was installed on cars back in the 30s of the last century.

It consists of two triangular levers, one of them is attached to the subframe with the help of a hinge, and the second as a rule rests on the body. Between the levers, vertically, there is a spring and a telescopic shock absorber.

Duct suspension has a number of undeniable advantages:

-The first, the body is less reacting to irregularities on the road;

- The second, noise level in the cabin from the working suspension is minimal. Of course, this type has its own flaws: the service of a double suspension costs much more expensive, actually, like its production.

Multi-dimensional suspension

Go to multi-dimensional suspension.

This type is almost the most common for today.

Appeared in the 60s and was originally established on racing cars.

The "multi-dimension" consists of several levers (usually 3), where each of them performs its task.

The top transmits the transverse effort and serves to attach the wheels to the subframe.

The rear lever "keeps" a significant part of the weight of the machine transmitted through the spring.

The longitudinal lever holds the wheel of the car in the desired direction along the longitudinal axis.

There is also a stabilizer responsible for the lack of rolls when turning turns.

The main advantage of the multi-dimensional suspension is that the perfect handling and smoothness of the car's trip is ensured.

The noise from the work of such a suspension will also not annoy the driver and its passengers.

As for the shortcomings, it is worth noting the low durability of "multi-dimensions" during the operation of the car on roads with poor-quality coating.

Basically, this type of suspension has proven itself perfectly.

Suspension MacPherson

The next and last type of suspension, considered in this article, has many names: MacPherson, suspension on guide racks, "swinging candle".

This type of suspension is most often installed on the front axle of the car. Looks like a "swinging candle" as follows.

The leverage from the left and right wheels are attached to the subframe.

On the other hand, the lever is attached to a swivel fist with a ball support.

That in turn allows the wheel to rotate and connected through a hinge with a steering wheel.

Naturally there is a shock absorber and spring, which together is called a shock absorbing counter.

Also present a transverse stability stabilizer that protects the body of the car from unnecessary rolls in turn.

Macherson's suspension gained great popularity thanks to the simplicity of the design and its large go, which reduced the number of breakdowns.

At the same time, the "swinging candle" cannot be seen on sports cars and expensive premium machines, as its design features lead to a significant change in the collapse of the wheels.
